Anesthesia Care for Casper Patients

Jeffery Christensen, DO, Anesthesiologist in Casper, WY

I have been caring for anesthesia patients in Casper since 2014 at Summit Medical Center. Over those years I have met thousands of people from Casper, Evansville, Mills, and the surrounding towns on what is often one of the most stressful days of their year. My job is to keep them safe and comfortable from the moment they arrive until they are back with their families.

Before surgery

I like to meet each patient before we go to the operating room. We talk about your health history, your medications, and any past experience with anesthesia. Many people tell me they are more nervous about the anesthesia than the surgery itself. I take the time to explain the plan in plain language and answer every question, because a calm patient who knows what to expect usually has a smoother day.

During surgery

Once surgery starts, I stay focused on you. I watch your breathing, blood pressure, heart rhythm, and oxygen levels, and I adjust medications as things change. Small details matter here, and I work closely with the surgeons and nurses at Summit so the whole team stays on the same page.

After surgery

Good anesthesia care does not end when the procedure does. I plan ahead for pain control and nausea so you wake up as comfortable as possible. Whenever it makes sense, I use approaches that reduce the need for opioids and help people get up and moving sooner.

Why I practice here

Casper is home. Caring for neighbors means I often see patients again at the store or around town, and I want every one of them to feel they were treated the way I would want my own family treated. That has guided my work here for more than a decade.

I also write about new anesthesia research on my blog, where I share what recent studies mean for patients and clinicians.
